Introduction
The HD-3WXL-e automatic degausser from Garner Products is suitable for quickly and effectively erasing large numbers of hard disk drives. The degausser operates simply; a hard disk is placed in the opening at the front. By pressing the "Erase" button, the hard drive is erased internally in nine seconds and ejected from the degausser on the other side. The HD-3WXL-e uses a "capacitive discharge". A short, powerful electromagnetic pulse (up to 9,300 Gauss) is sent through the hard drive. This discharge is powerful enough to erase hard disk drives of 2 TB and larger.
The SCAN-1 Media Destruction Report Generator comes standard with the Garner HD-3WXL-e. This kit consists of log software and a barcode scanner. With the log software extensive information about each degauss cycle (user, date/time, serial number, degauss result) can be stored for auditing or reporting purposes. The Garner HD-3WXL-e must be connected to a PC via a USB cable.
In addition to erasing hard drives, the Garner HD-3WXL-e degausser can also be used for erasing various magnetic tapes such as DLT, LTO, 9940, 3590, AIT, 8mm and more. The degausser does not need to be cooled and can be used continuously. The system can erase a hard disk or tape in 9 seconds. When degaussing large numbers of hard drives or tapes, a "Batch Mode" can be used where pressing the Erase button is no longer necessary.
To ensure that information on hard drives and tapes is effectively removed the HD-3WXL-e has a number of built-in security measures; the degausser checks the stored power for each cycle. A built-in sensor also measures the magnetic field with each discharge. Any faults are shown via the LCD display. This ensures correct operation of the degausser.
